Ever since I started playing football, I’ve always had this dream about becoming a professional footballer playing for Liverpool. I’ve loved them since I was a kid.
But as soon as I started dreaming about what might happen in the future, I remembered my old man. There was no way he would let me be a professional footballer. He wanted me to become a lawyer or a doctor. “These are the good jobs, Baljit. Never mind the football. If you dream it must be for real. Why can’t you dream about things that really matter?” That was his usual reply. I was going to have to do something to convince him that I was serious.
