Nordic Data Protection Lawaf Blume P & mfl

From 1998 to 2000 the Nordic countries enacted new data protection acts. The reason for these new acts was the implementation of directive 95/46 EC.
The purpose of this book is to introduce these new laws and to explain how the individual act fits into the national legal tradition and culture. From this perspective unsolved or future aspects of data protection are outlined. The new data protection laws in the four Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden) are discussed by a leading expert from each country. Although there are many similarities and there is a long tradition for co-operation between the Nordic countries the individual act is best understood by the national expert.

The national legal tradition of each country is described as the framework for the understanding of the rules. The challenges facing data protection in the future are also discussed. All in this book provides an insight to the status of privacy in this part of the world.

The four athors are professors of IT and law, teaching at the universities of Copenhagen, Oslo, Rovaniemi and Stockholm.
